NFARES 2011 Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on Sunday, October 16th from 3-6PM. NOTE REVISED DATE

NFARES will be holding the 2011 Simulated Emergency Test (SET) on Sunday, October 16th from 3-6PM.

This year's simulated emergency will be a tornado and we are hoping that our preparation will be for a test and not a real tornado emergency. With your help, we will provide ham radio operators at all Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Roswell, Alpharetta and Milton fire stations, hospitals and shelters, and pass messages between locations using the National Traffic System (NTS) format.

To participate, please contact Mike Cohen (AD4MC) at ad4mc@nfarl.org or 404-981-8624

NFARES Running FLDIGI tests

The NFARES group has been testing fldigi for their digital mode and it is working great. It permits an easy way to exchange digital messages. The mode being used is MT63/1000. Here is the good news - it works very well acoustically coupled - in other words, you do not have to have a digital interface such as Signal-Link. Just use a pair of computer headphones with microphone (sometimes referred to a "computer headset"). Plug them into the sound card on your computer, put the microphone next to your rig (usually 147.06), turn on fldigi and copy away!
